ATM Cards/Visa Debit Cards
|
Until further notice, we
will no longer accept ATM or
Debit Card transactions from
any foreign
country. This includes
foreign-based Internet
transactions.
This action is being taken in
order to protect our members'
accounts from the latest "card
compromise" and the resulting
increase in fraudulent card
activity via foreign ATMs and
foreign retailers.
This action is proactive and
not in response to any
fraudulent activity or losses at
our credit union. |
ATM Cards
Any member with a savings and/or
checking account may apply for an
ATM card. The card carries a $300
per day daily limit. The processors
day runs from 3:30pm to 3:29pm. In
other words, if you made a $300
withdrawal at 3:25pm -- you could make
another $300 withdrawal after 3:30pm --
since 3:30 begins a new ATM day.
Members may then use their card at
any
domestic
(U.S. only) ATM that displays the NYCE, PLUS
or CIRRUS logo.
This program allows 24/7 access to
your account at hundreds of ATMs in
the Capital District -- and
thousands of ATMs throughout the
country.
ATM Security: No one can access your
account without the PIN, therefore:
-
Don't ever write you PIN
number on your ATM card.
-
Don't keep a written copy
of the PIN with your card or in
your purse or wallet.
-
Don't show or tell anyone
your PIN.
-
Card lock-out occurs after 3rd
PIN failure and must be reset by
the main office.
-
Lost/Stolen Cards: If your Debit
Card is lost or stolen:
immediately contact the main office
at 518-262-3090. If it is
during non-business hours, contact
our Lost/Stolen
Card Department at
1-800-236-2442,
and then notify the credit union on
the next business day. Failure
to provide proper notification may
result in the loss of funds from
your account.
VISA Debit Cards
To
receive a Debit card--you must
have a checking account with this
credit union and meet credit
qualifications. If you do not meet
the credit qualifications for a
debit card, you may still request an
ATM card.
-
ATM Usage:
Members may use their debit card at
any domestic ATM that displays the NYCE, PLUS, CIRRUS,
or
VISA Logo. As with our ATM
cards:
-
Don't ever write you PIN
number on your card.
-
Don't keep a written copy
of the PIN with your card or in
your purse or wallet.
-
Don't show or tell anyone
your PIN.
-
Card lock-out occurs after 3rd
PIN failure and your card must
be reset by
the main office. The
lock-out will also block your card
from being used as a debit card.
-
Purchases:
Members may use their Debit Card at
any domestic store or
business that displays the VISA
Logo. Please remember, however,
this is a debit card--not
a credit card--you must have enough
money in your account to cover the
cost of the purchase. For
security reasons, you may not
use your credit union Debit Card to
make foreign purchases via the
internet. We suggest you
use a regular credit card or an
online service like PayPal.
-
Lost/Stolen Cards: If your Debit
Card is lost or stolen:
immediately contact the main office
at 518-262-3090. If it is
during non-business hours, contact
our Lost/Stolen
Card Department at
1-800-236-2442,
and then notify the credit union on
the next business day. Failure
to provide proper notification may
result in the loss of funds from
your account.

Member Selected PIN
You have the option of choosing your own
"PIN" (Personal Identification Number).
When you sign up for the card, you will
receive instructions and a telephone
number to call in order to choose your
own PIN. The procedure is easy and
takes less than a minute. (Note:
You must not hang up until you
hear the automated operator say "Thank
you for using phone PIN").
Choosing your own PIN allows you to
choose a number that's easy to
remember. If , for some reason, you do
not call and select your own PIN --a
system generated PIN is automatically
selected and mailed to you.
Important Tips on
ATM/Debit Card Safety and Loss Prevention
ATM and Debit Card Safety
-
Treat your card like cash. Keep it
in a safe place.
-
Keep your personal identification number (PIN) a
secret. Never write it
on your card or carry it in your
purse of wallet.
-
Do not disclose card information over the
phone to anyone. No one needs to
know your PIN, not even your
financial institution.
-
Never disclose information about your card
in response to an unsolicited e-mail
or request.
-
Make certain your Internet shopping sites are
secure. Look for the “https”
in the address and the “closed
lock” on the bottom right
side of the webpage.
-
Protect your card's magnetic stripe. Do
not expose your card's magnetic
stripe to magnetic objects.
-
Report a lost or stolen card at once.
Call 1-800-236-2442
-
Use our free Online Banking Service to
periodically review account
transactions (see the "Quick Click
link" in the upper right hand corner
of this page)
-
Carefully review your account statements.
ATM
Safety
-
Observe the ATM surroundings before
approaching a walk-up ATM. If anyone
or anything appears to be
suspicious, cancel your transaction
and leave the area at once.
-
If an ATM is obstructed from view or poorly lit,
go to another ATM. It is a good idea
to take along a companion
when using an ATM, especially at
night.
-
Minimize time spent at the ATM by having your
card out and ready to use. Do
not let anyone see how much
money you withdrew, and never
count your money at the ATM.
-
Never allow a stranger to assist you in
conducting an ATM transaction, even
if you have trouble or if your card
is stuck.
-
Stand between the ATM and anyone waiting
to use the terminal so that others
cannot see your PIN or transaction
amount.
-
Look for possible fraudulent devices
attached to the ATM. If the ATM
looks different or appears to have
any alterations or attachments to
the card slot or PIN pad, do not use
it.
Drive-Up ATM Safety
-
Keep the doors locked, windows up and
engine running at all times when
waiting in line.
-
Leave enough room between cars to allow for a
quick exit should it
become necessary.
-
Before lowering the window to use a drive-up ATM,
observe the entire
surrounding area. If anyone or
anything appears to be suspicious,
cancel your transaction and drive
away at once.
-
Minimize time spent at the ATM by
having your card out and ready to
use. Once your transaction is
complete, take your money, card and
receipt and immediately drive away
from the terminal.
-
If anyone follows you after you have completed
your ATM transaction, go
immediately to a crowded,
well-lit area and call the police.
PIN Debit Safety
-
Never allow the cashier or anyone else to
enter your PIN for you, even if they
are assisting you with the
transaction.
-
Block the view of others when using a POS
terminal.
-
Be sure the transaction is complete and
you have received a receipt before
leaving.
-
If you received cash back, put it
away before leaving the
terminal.
-
When using an outdoor POS terminal such as at a
gas station, observe your
surroundings before making a
transaction. If anything looks
suspicious, leave the area at once.
-
It is a good idea to take someone
with you when using an outdoor POS
terminal at night.
-
If anyone follows you after you have completed
your POS transaction, go
immediately to a crowded,
well-lit area and call the police.
